The 15th-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns rebounded from a loss to record a non-conference win.

Louisiana defeated the UMBC Retrievers, 7-4, in their second game of the third day of play in the 32nd Louisiana Classics at Lamson Park on Saturday.

The win for the Cajuns, after a 1-0 loss to North Florida in their first game of the day, moved their record in this year's event to 3-1.

The triumph also improved UL's all-time record in the Louisiana Classics, which dates back to 1987, to an impressive 124-17-1.

Louisiana got on the scoreboard first, scoring a run in the top half of the first inning, when Beth Ashley drove home a run with a ground out, scoring Alissa Dalton, to give them a quick 1-0 lead.

The Cajuns added another run in the top half of the second inning, when Kelli Martinez singled home Lexie Comeaux, who opened the frame with a walk, to widen the lead to 2-0.

UL scored another run in the top half of the third inning, when Aeriyl Mass scored Comeaux on a ground ball, to make it 3-0.

UMBC tied things in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs, two unearned, including run-scoring groundouts by Maddie Daigneau and Sierra Pierce, to even the count, 3-3.

Louisiana regained the lead in the top half of the 4th inning, when Brittany Rodriguez began the frame with a single, before scoring on a two-out double off the bat of Ashley, to give them a 4-3 cushion.

The Cajuns put the game away in the top half of the 6th inning, scoring three times, when Kourtney Gremillion scored Dalton with a sacrifice fly to right, before Casidy Chaumont belted a two-out, two-run homer, her third of the season, to give them a 7-3 lead.

The Retrievers, refusing to give up, scored a run in the bottom half of the 7th inning, and brought the tying run to the plate with the score 7-4.

But it wasn't enough, as UL would hang on for the for the 3-run triumph.

Louisiana, who outhit UMBC, 12-2 was paced at the plate by Chaumont, who homered, while Rodriguez, Dalton, Ashley, and Martinez all accumulated two hits apiece.

Carrie Boswell (1-1) recorded the win in the circle for the Cajuns, her first collegiate victory, allowing one unearned run on one hit over 2.1 innings.

Carrie Dixon pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief to pick-up her first collegiate save.

Valerie Hammett (0-3) suffered the loss for the Retrievers, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits in four innings of work.

With the victory, Louisiana improved to 10-3, while UMBC dropped to 1-8.

Louisiana returns to the diamond on Sunday, weather permitting, when they face Memphis in the final day of play in the tournament.
