Thanks a Lott! – Cajuns Use Homers to Down Tulane, 7-6

Todd Lott has had a rough go of it in 2018 for the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns.  But Tuesday night, his two swings of the bat made a big impact.

Lott homered twice, the second proving to be the game winner as Louisiana held on to beat Tulane 7-6 at M. L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park before a paid crowd of 4,743.

The Cajuns led 5-0 when Lott homered off a pine tree in left center off reliever Ross Massey in the fifth inning, and led 6-3 when Lott hit his second homer to left center to give the Cajuns a run they would need at the end.

Trevor Jensen hit a three run homer off Cajuns' closer Logan Stoelke in the ninth inning, but the senior retired the next three batters to preserve the win.

"We got off to a good start tonight offensively, but what Todd was able to do was help us tack on runs and his last homer made their (Tulane's) push irrelevant.  He's been working hard and has had great BP over the last week.  (Tyler) Stover's wrist has been bothering him and we decided to play Fontenot at first and give Todd a shot tonight."

Louisiana (30-23) jumped on Tulane starter Keagan Gillies (5-6) in the first inning with a two out rally.  Daniel Lahare singled and went to third on Gavin Bourgeois' double.  Lahare scored on a wild pitch before Kennon Fontenot tripled to right field to make the score 2-0.  Zach Lafleur's infield hit scored Fontenot with the third run of the inning.

The Cajuns increased their lead in the second when Kole McKinnon was hit by a pitch and scored on a wild pitch before Bourgeois homered down the right field line to give the Cajuns a 5-0 lead.

Lott's second homer in as many games increased the Cajuns' lead before Tulane scored a pair of runs in the sixth on a two run single by Luke Glancy, and the Wave (24-29) got a run closer in the eighth on Glancy's RBI double before Lott's second blast of the night.

The Cajuns outhit the Green Wave 10-9 in the contest with Bourgeois, Hunter Kasuls, Lott and Lafleur contributing two hits each.  Glancy, Kody Hoese and Grant Matthews had two hits each for Tulane.

Nick Lee (2-6) was credited with the win after a pair of scoreless innings.  The five Cajun pitchers combined to strike out 13 Green Wave batters in the contest.

The Cajuns will be back in action Thursday when they play host to ULM with first pitch mscheduled for 6:00 pm
