Saturday’s Scores: Georgia State Takes Over Second Place
While the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns (19-3, 9-0) were taking care of Troy (9-13, 3-6) Saturday afternoon, the rest of the league was in action as well.
And, when the games were finished, Georgia State found themselves in second place, two games behind the Cajuns after extending its winning streak to seven games.
Here's a look at what happened on Saturday
GEORGIA STATE 54 TEXAS STATE 50--In the end, ,there was no answer for D'Marcus Simonds as the Panthers' guard scored eight of his 20 points in the final minute to lead GSU (16-6, 7-2) to the win. The Bobcats (14-9, 7-3) led 48-44 with 5:50 remaining, but scored only two points the rest of the way.
GEORGIA SOUTHERN 74, UTA 59--The Mavericks (13-10, 4-6) jumped out to a 21-8 lead before the Eagles (15-7, 6-3) got into gear. Tookie Brown had 23 points for the winners, who closed to within two points at halftime. Kevin Hervey had 29 points for UTA.
ULM 83, SOUTH ALABAMA 74--Travis Munnings and Sam McDaniel combined for 38 points to lead the Warhawks (9-11, 3-6) to the win. The Warhawks led by as many as 21 in the first half. South Alabama (11-11, 4-5) cut the lead to four points with 7:09 to play but got no closer. Rodrick Sykes, who was held to just one field goal in the Jags' loss to Louisiana, went off on ULM for 39 points.
COASTAL CAROLINA 72, LITTLE ROCK 62--Coastal made it a sweep over the Arkansas schools by taking the ten point win in Conway. The Chanticleers (10-13, 4-6) were led by Amidou Bamba, who had a career high 18 points. Ryan Pippins had fifteen points for Little Rock, now on a four game losing streak.
ARKANSAS STATE 93, APPALACHIAN STATE 88--After suffering through a cold shooting night on Thursday, the Red Wolves (8-14, 3-6) scored 56 in the first half en route to the win. App State (9-14 4-6) closed to within 86-81 in the final minute. Devin Simms led the way for A-State with 23 points. Ronshad Shabazz tallied 27 for the Mountaineers.
