Ragin’ Cajuns Enjoy Record-Breaking Homecoming Win
The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns enjoyed a fruitful Homecoming win against New Mexico State University 66-38.
It was a beautiful Homecoming day out at Cajun Field Saturday afternoon as UL was taking on a former Sun Belt Conference opponent in New Mexico State University.
The Cajuns were looking to start this game fast and boy were they were able to do it, accumulating four first-quarter touchdowns. They were able to run the ball with Ragas, Nunez was able to sling the ball for two long touchdown passes, and Levi Lewis even got involved with a little trickery. After the first quarter, we were off to the races as UL would run out in front 28-14......
The second quarter would start the way the first one ended, with another Louisiana touchdown, a 31-yard run by Elijah Mitchell for the Cajuns fifth straight score to open this game. As it went, the Cajuns they would score on all seven of their possessions in the first half, six straight touchdowns and a field goal to finish up the first half as they lead at halftime 45-21.
As we opened up the second half, the Aggies would try to keep pace with Louisiana by outscoring them 10-7 in the third quarter and got as close as two scores but that was about it.
The Ragin' Cajuns broke a school record in total offense for a game with 759 yards and Andre Nunez tied a school record throwing five touchdowns. It was a very balanced attack with the aforementioned Nunez throwing for five scores, Elijah Mitchell lead the way running the football with 107 yards and three touchdowns for the second time in as many weeks.
With the win, the Cajuns improved to 3-3 on the season and hit the road next Saturday to take on Appalachian State (4-1, 2-0 SBC) at 2:30 pm.
