For Cajun fans, this will make the transition a bit easier.

Matt Deggs, who helped the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns to their best record in school history as an assistant, has been named the Cajuns' new baseball coach.

Deggs returns to the Cajuns after five seasons as head coach at Sam Houston State, where he amassed a 187-118 overall record.  His teams won three regular season Southland Conference titles and made two NCAA appearances and one Super Regional appearance.  His teams won at least 30 games in each of his five seasons and won at least 20 league games on three occasions.

Deggs first stint with the Cajuns came during the 2012 season after former assistant Mike Trahan resigned to go into private business.  In the 2013 season, Deggs' aggressive offensive philosophy paid dividends as the Cajuns' made it to the finals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament and an NCAA Regional berth.

In 2014, the Cajuns exploded.

Louisiana won the Sun Belt regular season title and won its first Sun Belt Tournament since 1998.  The Cajuns finished with a 49-7 regular season record and was the consensus #1 team in the country entering postseason play.  The Cajuns were awarded a #6 national seed and advanced to the third game of the Super Regionals before finishing with a 58-10 record.

Deggs has also served as a motivational speaker and is the author of the book "From 15 to 28."

He and his wife Kathy have three children.

Louisiana Athletics will conduct a press conference at Russo Park Stadium Club on the future of the Ragin’ Cajuns Baseball program on Thursday, July 18, beginning at 11 a.m. Doors will open to the media and general public at 10 a.m.
