One LSU player was taken on the  opening day of the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft on Monday.

LSU junior shortstop Josh Smith was selected selected in the second round (pick No. 67) by the New York Yankees.

The 5-foot-10, 172-pound Smith is LSU's leading hitter this season, carrying a .346 average, to go along with 15 doubles, two triples, nine homers, 41 RBI's, 68 runs scored, and 20 stolen bases

A product of Catholic High School in Baton Rouge, Smith hit .281 as a freshman in 2017, before hitting .250 last season.

The first two rounds of the MLB Draft were held on Monday night, with Rounds 3-10 scheduled for Tuesday, and Rounds 11-40 slated for Wednesday.
