LSU Tops Alabama 46-41 In A Classic
LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire scored 4 touchdowns for the Tigers, who topped the #2 Alabama Crimson Tide 46-41 in Tuscaloosa on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, #1 LSU snapped Bama's 31 game home winning streak and snapped their 8 game losing streak to the Tide.
LSU led by as many as 20, gaining a 33-13 lead at halftime.
The Tide attempted a comeback, cutting the Tiger lead to 6 and then to 5 in the 4th quarter on two touchdown drives, but on both occasions, LSU quarterback Joe Burrow led LSU on a counter touchdown drive to extend the lead.
It was a Heisman showcase for Burrow, who ended the game 31-39 for 393 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Beyond the stats, it was the cool moxie Burrow has shown in clutch situations all season, being put to the test against the toughest opponent to date in a hostile environment. He passed with flying colors.
The 6'4 senior from Athens, Ohio was unfazed, making the play anytime the team had to have it.
"This is why I came here," said Burrow after the win, as he stood next to Edwards-Helaire. "To play in games like this with guys like this. It's an unbelievable feeling."
In addition to his 4 touchdowns (3 rush, 1 receiving) Edwards-Helaire finished with 180 total yards, including a clutch third-down conversion catch and run that seemed improbable before Burrow made the throw, but one Edwards-Healire hauled in and moved the sticks on a crucial 4th quarter drive.
"It's a great feeling," said the 5'8, 210 pound Edwards-Helaire shortly after the victory. "I've been doubted by so many, from my size to other things, so it's just a great feeling."
A 'great feeling' is a simple way to describe the entire LSU fanbase tonight, who have waited for a win versus Bama for 8 years.
LSU (9-0, 5-0) hosts Ole Miss (4-6, 2-4) at Tiger Stadium next week at 6:00 pm.
