LSU Defeats Oregon St., 7-1, Moves Into Regional Finals
The top-seeded LSU Tiger baseball team stayed unbeaten in the Baton Rouge, Louisiana Regional, after defeating the second-seeded Oregon St. Beavers, 7-1, at Alex Box Stadium on Saturday night.
The Tigers scored two runs in the second inning, to take a 2-0 lead.
The Beavers scored their first and only run in the third, cutting the lead to 2-1, before LSU came right back with two of their own, to make it 4-1.
The Tigers then added an insurance run in the sixth inning, and two more in the eighth, to cruise to the six-run, 7-1, victory.
Kevin Gausman (11-1) picked-up the win for LSU, going eight innings, allowing seven hits, one run, and three walks, to go along with three strikeouts, while Dan Child (6-4) suffered the loss for the Beavers.
With the win, LSU improved to 45-16 on the year, and advances to the regional finals, while Oregon St. fell to 39-19.
Oregon St. will play ULM, who eliminated Belmont on Saturday afternoon, on Sunday afternoon, at 1:30 pm (cdt), with the winner advancing to take on LSU at 6:30 pm (cdt).
If LSU wins on Sunday, they would advance to Super Regional play. If they lose, it would force an "if necessary" game on Monday evening, at 6:30 pm (cdt).
