The beginning of a weekend Sun Belt series at Lamson Park on Friday between the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns and UTA Mavericks.

The Cajuns secured the victory with a 4-1 win.

Summer Ellyson got the ball for Louisiana in this one and she was good early and often as she stranded a couple of runners in scoring position in the early innings. She threw seven innings of one-run ball allowing just three hits, walked four and struck out 11.

As for the offense, Keeli Milligan had the Twizzler Mojo working as she went 1-3 with two RBI's. Sarah Hudek also went 1-3 with a solo home run and two RBI's.

The Cajuns scored a run in the second inning to take an early lead as Keeli Milligan clutched up with a two-out RBI single through the right side of the infield as Kara Gremillion scored. 1-0 UL.

Louisiana would add another run later in the game in the fifth when Sarah Hudek slammed a solo home run to dead center field to double their lead to 2-0.

UTA put together a threat with runners on second and third with one out but Ellyson was able to seemingly strikeout Reagan Wright but strike three wasn't called. The catcher Julie Rawls threw the ball up in the air thinking Wright had struck out but it wasn't the case as a run crossed the plate. The play was ruled a wild pitch and Ellyson was able to work out of the jam with help from Sarah Hudek as she made a spectacular catch to end the inning. 2-1 UL.

In the bottom half of the inning, the Cajuns offense would put it away by scoring two insurance runs on a Keeli Milligan RBI groundout and a Sarah Hudek sac-fly. It was 4-1 UL and that's the total they would go on to win it by.

With the win, Summer Ellyson improved to 22-4 and the team is now 31-4.

Louisiana and UTA will play a doubleheader tomorrow with game one beginning at 2 p.m.
