Three outstanding pitching performances, and a slugfest highlighted the Friday night action in the Sun Belt Conference.

And, oh yes, the weatherman took center stage as well.

In Statesboro, Brian Eichhorn had the night's best pitching performance, throwing a complete game one hitter as Georgia Southern (23-21, 13-8) defeated Troy (31-15, 13-9) by a score of 3-0.  Eichhorn (4-3) carried a no hitter into the seventh before a leadoff single by Joey Denison ended the bid.  Mason McWhorter's second inning homer was all the support Eichhorn would need.  He walked one and struck out nine, throwing 119 pitches.

Colten Schmidt was doing Colten Schmidt things, as the league's ERA leader pitched eight strong innings, leading Louisiana (27-20, 13-9) to a 12-6 win over #15 Coastal Carolina (31-15, 17-5).  Schmidt (6-0) allowed just four hits, walked one and struck out nine.  Zach Biermann's third inning homer was the only blemish on Schmidt's ledger.  Kennon Fontenot hit a three run homer and drove in four runs, while Hunter Kasuls and Gavin Bourgeois had three RBI each.

In Jonesboro, Bradey Welsh threw six strong innings to lead Arkansas State (16-25, 7-15) to a 6-1 win over Texas State(22-23-1, 10-12)  in a game delayed 38 minutes because of weather at the start.  Welsh scattered five hits and allowed only a second inning run.  The Red Wolves scored five times in the fifth with only one earned run.  Drew Tipton increased his hitting streak to 16 games.  Texas State has lost four straight.

There was no pitchers duel in Little Rock as the Trojans (24-19, 13-8) rallied for five runs in the eighth inning to defeat South Alabama (25-18, 13-8), 13-9 at Gary Hogan Field.  The game was played in a steady rain in the middle innings.  Matt Merino and Kale Emshoff combined for six hits and seven RBI to lead the Little Rock attack.  Carter Perkins had a grand slam for the Trojans.  Little Rock maintained its 1/2 game lead in the West with the win.

And the weatherman was the winner in Arlington and Monroe.  UTA and Appalachian State will play a doubleheader today, as will Georgia State and ULM.
