Former Astros Pitcher Will Harris Signs With Nationals

Former LSU standout Will Harris has a new professional baseball home.

A right-handed relief pitcher, Harris, who spent the past five seasons with the Houston Astros, agreed to a 3-year, $24 million contract with the Washington Nationals on Thursday.

A third baseman and pitcher in college, Harris played at LSU for four years (2003-2006) prior to being drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 9th round of the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft.

A graduate of Slidell High School, Harris made his Major League debut with the Rockies in 2012, before playing two seasons for the Arizona Diamondbacks (2013-2014).

Claimed off waivers by Houston prior to the 2015 season, Harris came into his own for the Astros, before a fixture in their bullpen.

In five seasons with the Astros, Harris  18-13 with 20 saves and a 2.36 ERA.

Harris' best season came in 2016 when he was named to the All-Star Game, compiling 12 saves and a 2.25 ERA.

The 35-year old Harris appeared in 68 games for the Astros last season, all in relief, going 4-1 with 4 saves and a sparkling 1.50 ERA.

In parts of 8 career seasons, Harris has accumulated an overall record of 23-18 with 20 saves and a 2.84 ERA. over 419 appearances.
