Cajuns Softball Rolls Georgia State In Game One
The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns took care of business on Thursday night as they defeated the Georgia State Panthers 10-2.
It was a quick start for Louisiana as Summer Ellyson opened the game by striking out the side in the first inning and then it was time for the offense.
In the bottom of the inning they scored two runs without the benefit of a hit, they used a walk, a stolen base, a sac-fly, an HBP and an error. 2-0 UL.
The Panthers were able to get a run back on a sac-fly and were actually outhitting the Cajuns after their second at-bats. That wouldn't last long as the bottom of the inning rolled around Louisiana added to their lead as they loaded the bases with two outs and Julie Rawls knocked in a pair with a 2 RBI single. 4-1 UL.
Again, Georgia State would cut the Cajun lead in half by coming away with another run on a couple of infield hits. But, yet again it wouldn't last long as in the bottom of the third Louisiana loaded the bases once again with two outs, this time it was Keeli Milligan who clutched up with a two-RBI single. 6-2 UL.
The Cajuns broke things open in the 5th inning as Keeli Milligan got things rolling with her second hit of the game. She quickly, pun intended, tied the program record for stolen bases in a season by stealing second and third for steals 50 and 51 on the year. Later in the inning, it was Julie Rawls who clubbed a three-run home run to increase the lead 9-2 UL.
Summer Ellyson exited the game after five innings and she was her usual impressive self. She did allow six hits, only one earned run but struck out 11 Panthers on the night while throwing 86 pitches.
Allison Deville came in to close the door before Louisiana got an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth to complete the run-rule victory, 10-2.
You couldn't get Keeli Milligan out on Thursday night as she was a perfect 2-2 with two walks, two RBI's, three runs scored, and three stolen bases.
Julie Rawls also had a heck of a game doing most of the heavy lifting offensively as she went 2-4 with a run scored and six RBI's.
Next, for Louisiana, they'll meet Georgia State for game two of the series tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.
