Cajuns Pour It On Late To Get The Road Victory Against Nicholls
The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns softball team was looking to follow up their masterful performance against Baylor with another great outing when they faced off against the Nicholls State Colonels. The Cajuns were able to pour it on late to get the 8-0 shutout victory. With the win, the Cajuns move to 20-3 on the year winning their 5th straight game.
The Cajuns in Colonels were in for a pitchers duel early on in the game. Neither team could really get anything going. Through the first 4 innings of play, the two teams had a combined total of 3 hits. That all changed in the 5th inning when Kourtney Gremillion hit an RBI triple to score Alissa Dalton. The Cajuns would add another run in the top of the 5th when Raina O'Neal hit an RBI single.
The scoring continued in the top of the 6th for the Cajuns when Julie Rawls added a 2-run home run. Summer Ellyson was her usual self as she fanned 11 batters while only allowing 3 hits through 6 innings. In the last 2 games, Ellyson has struck out 28 batters. The Cajuns would finish off the Colonels in the top of the 7th when Lexie Comeaux hit an RBI triple and then Kara Gremillion would hit a 3-run home run to give the Cajuns the 8-0 win.
The Cajuns will now look ahead to this weekend when they host the Troy Trojans in their 2nd Sun Belt series of the year. The Cajuns are looking forward to returning home as they plyed on the road the last 3 weekends. The Cajuns will finish off their home stand when they face off against McNeese State next Wednesday before traveling to face off against South Alabama next weekend.
