The Houston Astros were very good last week taking five of six games against the Chicago Cubs (36-21) and finishing the week with an emphatic sweep of the Oakland Athletics (29-30).
Houston sits at 40-20 as we begin to get into the summer days of the 2019 season and this week they've slipped in the weekly power rankings to 3rd overall.
Here is this week's Top 5:
- Los Angeles Dodgers (41-19)-Up two from 3
- New York Yankees (38-20)-Up two from 4
- Houston Astros (40-20)-Down two from 1
- Minnesota Twins (40-18)-Down two from 2
- Tampa Bay Rays (35-22)-Up one from 6
Last week the Houston Astros had a strong showing at home and on the road and this week they'll play at the floundering Seattle Mariners (25-37) who just traded Jay Bruce to the Philadelphia Phillies. They'll finish out the week facing the weakest team in the league at home in the Baltimore Orioles (18-41).
A couple of teams who struggled last week around Major League Baseball were the Pittsburgh Pirates (28-30) who fell from 16 to 21 as injuries continue to rack up for the Bucs. The Arizona Diamondbacks (30-30) also struggled as they began last week with five straight losses and fell from 14th to 19th.
As for a team that made a significant leap upwards this week outside of the top 5 has to be the Colorado Rockies (31-27). The Rockies jumped up from 20th to 11th this week as they're riding an eight-game winning streak.
