Utah Hammers LSU 95-71
It took only 13 seconds for Utah to take the lead over LSU Monday night at the Jon Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City.
And, that was the high point for the Tigers.
The Utes jumped out to a 30-9 lead in the first quarter and never looked back in a convincing 95-71 win over the Tigers in the second round of the NIT.
LSU never led in the game. They got to within 7-5 with 7:48 to go in the first quarter, but Utah (21-11) went on a 23-4 run to put the game away early.
LSU (18-15) trailed by 17 at the half and got the first basket of the third quarter to trail 47-32. That was as close as the Tigers got.
Utah scorched the nets inside and out, hitting 57.9 percent of their shots and were almost as good from three point range, hitting 14-27 from beyond the arc. LSU, meanwhile, shot 44.1 percent and was just 8-30 from the bonusphere.
Tremont Waters led the way for LSU with 19 points on 6-16 shooting, but was just 1-8 from beyond the arc. Skyler Mays scored 16 off the bench, while Anthony Epps added 12 and Randy Onwuasor chipped in ten. All five starters for Utah scored in double figures.
