Three Cajun Baseball players receive All-Sun Belt honors

The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Baseball team had three players receive the news that they've made one of the All-Sun Belt Conference teams.

The three players who were honored on Monday were:

Colten Schmidt-Starting Pitcher (First Team/SBC Pitcher of the Year)
Daniel Lahare-Outfielder (Second Team)
Kennon Fontenot-Utility (Second Team)

Schmidt became the sixth player in the Ragin' Cajuns program history and for the third in the last five years to be awarded the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the year. With that he joined Gunner Leger (2017), Carson Baranik (2014), Hunter Moody (2006), Austin Faught (2005), and Scott Dohmann (2000) on that award list.

He was truly sensational this year, his main key? Throwing strikes and keeping hitters off balance. He had a cool 1.93 ERA, a 7-0 record, struck 86 hitters, while walking just 9!

For the junior outfielder Daniel Lahare, the transfer from Delgado, he had such a terrible fall that he wasn't really on the coaching staff's radar coming into the season. However, he worked while he waited for the season to get going and once he got an opportunity he ran with it. He ended up leading the team in hitting at .319 clip, runs scored with 46, triples with 4, and hits with 66.

Finally, Fontenot was uber valuable to this program with his versatility, this year he played third, outfield, and first base. He struggled out of the gate, like most Cajun hitters did, but in the second half of the season he seemed to find himself. He finished with a .293 average, scored 24 runs, was tied for the team lead driving in 40 runs and hitting 4 home runs.
