Sun Belt Baseball Tournament To Be In Montgomery, Beginning In 2020
Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun baseball team will be the host school for the Sun Belt Conference baseball tournament in 12 days, with every game of the tourney taking place at Russo Park at M.L. Tigue Moore Field.
Next year, the tourney will be in Conway, South Carolina, with Coastal Carolina as the host school.
Beginning in 2020, the Sun Belt Conference baseball tournament will be played on a neutral site, at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Alabama.
The Sun Belt, the Central Alabama Sports Commission, and the city of Montgomery agree don a five-year deal to host the tournament, as announced by each earlier today.
Riverwalk Stadium is home to the Minor League Montgomery Biscuits, and is located in downtown Montgomery.
It can has 4,500 seats, and a max capacity of 7,000 when including general admission.
"We are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue to build our relationship with the Sun Belt Conference," said Central Alabama Sports Commission Executive Director Johnny Williams in a press release. "Over the past five years, they have been a great partner in the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl and we look forward to expanding that partnership and their footprint in our community with the Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championship."
"We commend the Sun Belt Conference for choosing Montgomery to host the conference's baseball championship starting in 2020," said Montgomery mayor Todd Strange in a release. "Home of the Montgomery Biscuits – one of Minor League Baseball's hardest working front offices, Riverwalk Stadium boasts pristine facilities in the heart of our city's entertainment district, and our entire community looks forward to welcoming another new tradition to the Capital of Dreams!"
Riverwalk Stadium uses a grass field, and was built in 2004.
