The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns have added an SEC transfer to their 2020 roster in the former of Geana Torres, formerly of Missouri.

Torres is a rising sophomore and was mainly used as a utility player at her time at Mizzou.

This should be a perfect fit for UL as they just lost a player to Missouri who played with some versatility in Cassidy Chaumont.

In addition, she was a member of the 2017 Puerto Rican Junior National Team and during the 2017 Women’s Softball World Championship, she hit an impressive .344 with eight runs scored and knocked in three runs over 29 at-bats. During her time with the team, she played a couple of different positions including left field and catcher. She also normally batted either second or third in the lineup and helped lead the team to a third-place finish in the event which included 26 teams.

During her debut campaign, last season she batted .294 in 39 appearances and just about half of her hits went for extra bases.

Here is what head coach Gerry Glasco had to say about Geana Torres, “Geana has a very pure left-handed swing and also has the potential to develop into a very dangerous power hitter, she will provide us with added depth at several key positions, as she can catch, play the outfield or cover first base if needed.”

Torres is a Rochester, N.H. product who was able to work her way into the Tigers lineup last season as a freshman, she started 29 games (11 in SEC play) and appeared in every game at the NCAA Los Angeles Regional. In addition, she accounted for 20 hits, with five doubles and four home runs, and served as the designated player.

This is the fourth transfer Louisiana has gotten this off-season and the third from a Power 5 program. Torres will join fellow Missouri teammate Callie Martin (Jr., OF, Raymore, Mo.), Oregon’s Mia Camuso (Jr., IF, Redding, Calif.) and a transfer from Miami Dade College Melissa Mayeux (Jr., IF, Le Barcares, France).
