LSU Topples Tennessee In Wet & Windy Conditions

Wet and windy conditions stormed down in Knoxville Saturday night, but it didn't keep the LSU Tigers from earning their 8th win of the season, as they topped Tennessee 30-10.

Weather caused light fixtures in the upper deck to go out early in the second half, while hordes of fans took cover into the annals of Neyland Stadium, but the players took the field after halftime, when the Tigers leaned on their run game and strong defense to outscore the Volunteers 13-0 in the final two quarters.

"You've got to love football", said LSU coach Ed Orgeron as his team came out of the locker room after halftime when the weather conditions had reached their worst. "It's like playing football when you're in your backyard."

LSU handed the ball to their top player, running back Derrius Guice, propelling the Tigers to a 50 yard scoring drive early in the 3rd quarter, cruising to a dominant second half when the story was more about the weather than the football.

"It's my first time seeing weather that bad (during a game)," said LSU coach Ed Orgeron.

Guice and senior running back Darrell Williams combined for 165 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns, while quarterback Danny Etling (pictured) rushed for 42 yards and a score of his own.

"I've never played in (anything) like this (weather), but at the end of the day, what are you gonna do, say 'I don't want to play coach?'", said Guice after the win. "You've got to man up and go."

Guice eclipsed 1,000 yards on the season, making him the 5th player in LSU history to rush for 1,000 or more yards in back to back seasons. (Leonard Fournette 2014-15, Kevin Faulk 1996-98, Dalton Hilliard 1984-85 and Charles Alexander 1977-78)

Linebacker Devin White led an impressive performance by the Tigers defense, finishing with a team-high 11 tackles, including 2.5 for loss.

With the victory, LSU improves to 8-3, procuring their 18th consecutive season with at least 8 wins, best among all Power 5 conference schools.

The Tigers close out their regular season next Saturday night at home against Texas A&M (7-4).
