LSU Falls To Vanderbilt In SEC Tournament Semifinal, Now Await Regional Announcements
LSU's baseball team entered the SEC Tournament in Hoover in need of several wins to improve their chance of hosting an NCAA Regional.
They leave Hoover tonight after losing to Vanderbilt 13-4, but with 3 more wins on their resume.
The NCAA will reveal the 16 host sites tomorrow night, and the rest of the tournament field on Monday.
The Tigers were short on pitchers against the Commodores, having used all but 3 healthy arms this week.
With sophomore pitcher Devin Fontenot getting the start on short rest, Vandy put 3 runs on the board early, as head coach Paul Mainieri then turned to a thin LSU bullpen that struggled to keep the scoring down.
"I'm very proud of our guys, but of course there's bitterness when you don't hold up the trophy at the end of the weekend," Mainieri said. "All we can do now is get home, get some rest and get ready for the real season to begin."
Will the Tigers get to host the Baton Rouge Regional?
LSU improved their RPI to 16th this week, and D1baseball.com predicts they'll be hosting as the #14 overall seed.
