Louisiana Opens Up Billy Napier Era With Lopsided Victory
The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns football team started the Billy Napier Era off with a bang as the Cajuns overpowered Grambling to a 49-17 victory in front of 28,866.
The Cajuns first drive didn't go as planned and as a result, the Tigers got on the board first as they kicked a field goal to open up the scoring. After that, though it was all Cajuns as the Cajuns scored 28 unanswered points. The Cajuns led 28-3 early on before Grambling scored a touchdown to make the score 28-10. The Cajuns would add another touchdown to go up 35-10 before the half.
Andre Nunez was responsible for 3 touchdowns in the first half as he threw for 2 touchdowns and rushed for a touchdown. Levi Lewis threw for a touchdown in the first half.
Despite being up 35-10 at the half, Coach Napier was not really happy. He said,"I'll be honest with you. There's a lot of sloppy football out there. I'll tell you right now, we're not operating to our standards."
The Cajuns seemed to hear what Napier had to say in the halftime talk as the Cajuns continued with their dominance in the 2nd half as Lewis threw for another touchdown and Raymond Calais ran for 74 yards before tripping over his own 2 feet but the very next play he scored on a 2-yard touchdown.
Grambling scored to make it a 49-17 game but that's all they could muster as the Cajuns sealed the victory. Trey Ragas led the Cajuns in rushing as he finished with 142 yards and 2 touchdowns on 13 carries. Nunez led the team in passing yards as he finished 19 of 22 for 184 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The Cajuns will go into the bye week with a 1-0 record and they will travel to Starkville week 3 to face Mississippi State.
