Louisiana Exacts Revenge On Georgia State
The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns basketball team was looking to get rid of two separate losing streaks. They were looking to get rid of the 3 game losing streak that they had been enduring this season and they wanted to get rid of the 6 game losing streak against Georgia State. Both of those losing streaks came to an end at the Cajundome on ESPN2 as Louisiana defeated Georgia State 76-72.
The Cajuns in previous match-ups had fallen behind early against Georgia State but tonight the Cajuns were able to take control in the first half. They had the crowd and energy on their side and they were able to hold onto an 11 point lead going into halftime. The Cajuns shot 46.15 % while Georgia State shot 37.04 % in the first half.
In any rivalry, it can sometimes get chippy and this rivalry is no different as a player for each team received a technical foul and some of the Panthers got chippy with Cajuns fans.
The second half was a different story for both teams as the Panthers would go on a 14-0 run to start the second half and take the lead. From there it was a good back and forth game as the teams would take the lead from each other. The Panthers would actually outscore the Cajuns 42-35 in the second half but the Cajuns would pull away late for the victory in a great college rivalry basketball game.
Jakeenan Gant would foul out for the Cajuns late in the 4th quarter but not before adding 23 points, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 steals. Cedric Russell and Trajan Wesley would be the only other Cajuns to score in double figures as they scored 14 points and 10 points respectively. Louisiana will look to get back on their winning ways and start a winning streak next weekend when they close out the home stand against ULM. After playing ULM, they will travel to Texas the following week to face off against UTA and Texas State.
