Fields Fuels Ragin’ Cajuns To Victory With Perfect Performance
It was a high scoring affair between the Ragin' Cajuns and Troy, but nobody was hotter from the floor than Simone Fields.
Fields put on a show, performing perfectly from the floor. She made all ten of her shot attempts (10-10 FG) for a game high 24 points, and she added in five rebounds and two steals two in the 80-72 victory. The only shots she missed were from the free throw line, but she still made four out of six attempts.
Louisiana built up a 16 point lead in the fourth quarter, and they held off a late run by Troy for another win in conference play. That makes three straight wins in the Sun Belt for the Cajuns, who appear to be heating up at the right time.
It was "Think Pink" night at the Cajundome, and Louisiana honored the memory of Andrea Brodhead with a fine performance. It was an emotional night for Head Coach Garry Brodhead, and he finished it with a smile on his face.
Fields wasn't the only Cajun to put in a fine performance either. Troi Swain's offensive production was dearly missed when she was out with an injury, and she's returning to fine form now that she's back.
Swain was the second leading scorer in the game with 18 points (5-8 FG, 3-6 3-pt), and she was first on Louisiana's score sheet with eight rebounds. She continues to develop as Brodhead's third scoring threat, and she picked up the slack for Jaylyn Gordon, who only had nine points.
Overall, it was an incredible shooting performance from Louisiana. They shot over 60 percent as a team (29-47 FG, 61.7%), while forcing Troy into jacking up a lot of poor shots (29-79 FG, 36.7%). The difference came at the free throw line, where Louisiana outscored Troy 16-7. They beat them by nine points at the line, and the winning margin was eight. Simple math says the Cajuns won the game at the charity stripe.
Louisiana now sits at 8-5 in conference play, which puts them firmly in third place. If they can protect their spot, things are looking good approaching the conference tournament.
The Ragin' Cajuns hit the road for their next game, and it's a rivalry matchup with ULM. The team is trending upward, and momentum is key when you get close to March.
