The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns battled the Georgia Southern Eagles into the 13th inning on Wednesday but when the dust finally settled the Cajuns had come up short, 6-5.

Grant Cox got the start and boy he was effective, he threw 7.2 innings, allowed three hits, three runs while walking just one and striking out four throwing 96 pitches.

The damage that was done against him came in the third inning when he got touched up on a hanging curveball by Mason McWhorter for a two-run homer. In addition, in the eighth when he was pulled with a runner on second and Michael Leaumont allowed an infield hit that scored the third run.

The offense for the Cajuns came in the fifth inning when Brennan Breaux and Cole McKinnon got on base to begin the inning. With one-out it was consecutive hits by O'Neal Lochridge and Hayden Cantrelle to tie the game at two at that point.

Louisiana was down to their final three outs heading to the top of the ninth down one but it was Daniel Lahare who led off the inning with a double, advanced to third on a bunt and then scored on a suicide squeeze from Cole McKinnon. Game tied at three.

Micheal Leaumont would settle down in extras giving the Cajuns 2.1 huge scoreless innings that allowed UL to grab the lead on a Brennan Breaux single in the top of the 11th 4-3.

Caleb Armstrong came on to pitch for Louisiana trying to close the game out. He got the leadoff batter to ground out but then it was a double by Nolan Tressler who roped a double down the left field line. He then advanced to third on a wild pitch and was brought home on a sac fly by Noah Searcy and the game was tied at four.

We played onto the 13th inning and it was a no doubter from Handsome Monica that untied the game and gave the Cajuns a 5-4 lead.

However, in the bottom of the inning the pitching couldn't hold the fort as Caleb Armstrong allowed a lead-off double and then Jacob Schultz was called on from the pen. Schultz just didn't have it as he allowed a single, a wild pitch that allows a run to score, and then threw away a bunt attempt to third base allowing the winning run to score. Cajuns fell 6-5.

Daniel Collins got the win for the Georgia Southern improving to 4-1 and Jacob Schultz was saddled with the loss to fall to 2-3 on the year.

With the loss the Cajuns will play for their 2019 season tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. against the Troy Trojans.
