Best Saints By The Numbers: #35

Today, #35:

The pick: Fakhir Brown

When deciding who is the best New Orleans Saints player to ever wear #35, the choice is limited to running backs Jim Otis, Bob Gresham, Henry Matthews, Jim Van Wagner, Earl Campbell, Bobby Morse, and Jamaal Branch, linebackers Ted Davis and Austin Johnson, and defensive backs Shane Pahukoa, Reggie Howard, Chris Canty, Fakhir Brown, David Pittman, and Michael Lehan.

Obviously, 35 has not been the best number in franchise history.

We're going to go with Brown, a defensive back, who played four yeas for the Saints, from 2002-2005.

After finishing his college career at Grambling St., Brown played one year in the Canadian Football League, before joining the San Diego Chargers, where he played for two years, prior to being out of football for two years. He then signed with the Saints prior to the 2002 season.

A native of Detroit, Michigan, Brown played in 12 games in his first year with the Saints, totaling 20 tackles and five deflected passes.

He followed that up by playing in all 16 games in 2003, recording 34 tackles.

Brown again played in all 16 games in 2004, intercepting two passes in 10 starts.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Brown played in 12 games in 2005, his final year with the team, before signing a free agent deal with the St. Louis Rams, where he played three more seasons before being released after the 2008 season.

Brown wasn't done with professional football however, playing the 2009 season with the Florida Tuskers of the United Football League.

In parts of nine NFL seasons, Brown accumulated 370 tackles, 59 pass deflections, and 11 interceptions, including 135 tackles, 30 pass deflections, and two interceptions as a member of the Saints.
