#5 LSU Takes Down #7 Florida In 42-28 Win
#5 LSU's offensive game plan in their contest with #7 Florida on Saturday night in Baton Rouge was a balanced attack, running the ball as much as they threw it.
The Tigers offense soared, leading LSU to a 42-28 win over the Gators in front of a capacity crowd of 102,321.
The LSU offense was great, but Heisman candidate quarterback Joe Burrow feels like it can be much better.
"We have a lot of room to improve still, but tonight was a great stepping stone for us," said Burrow.
LSU averaged 10.6 yards per play. Entering Saturday's contest, Florida's defense many only allowed 4.5 yards per play.
The Tigers offensive line was outstanding.
Burrow had plenty of time to throw, rarely facing pressure, tossing 21 completions on 24 attempts for 293 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also chipped in 43 yards rushing.
"The biggest stat of the game, no sacks," explained Ed Orgeron.
LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire led all rushers with 134 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase racked up 127 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns, while Justin Jefferson added 123 yards and a score.
Florida's offense matched LSU score for score in the first half, tying the game at 21 just before halftime.
The Gators then drove down the field to begin the 3rd quarter, taking their only lead of the game. They wouldn't score again, though they entered the red zone twice, turning it over on an interception once, and then on downs late in the game.
"Our defense really stepped up in the second half," noted Burrow. "We knew they would."
Saturday night in Death Valley was on full display, as Tiger fans were raucous for the majority of the game, giving LSU the home-field advantage known throughout college football.
This atmosphere is second to none in the country," explained Burrow. "We played a great team and came out on top. It was such a great game. I'm kind of speechless right now."
Orgeron referenced Tiger fans several times in postgame, showing gratitude for the impact they had on the game.
"I do believe the winning edge was playing in Tiger Stadium," said Orgeron.
LSU (6-0, 2-2) leaves the friendly confines of Tiger Stadium next Saturday to head to Starksville, Mississippi, for a matchup with Mississippi State (3-3, 1-2).
