The LSU Tigers had not turned the ball over once this season through their first four games. However, the Troy defense was swarming early and often in this one and would change those fortunes for the Tigers. In this one the Trojans would force four Tiger turnovers in rout to holding on to a 24-21 upset win in Death Valley.

The upset, a historic one, was the first non-conference loss at home since 2002, that totals a 49 game winning streak which was snapped. Head Coach of the Troy Trojans, Neal Brown said of the win, "Probably the biggest win in program history right here".

This game didn't start off on the right foot for the Tigers as on their very first play from scrimmage, tailback Nick Brossette coughed up the football via Cedarius Rookard. And just like that the LSU defenses back was against the wall and the Trojans were set up in fantastic scoring position.

Troy was able to take advantage as quarterback Brandon Silvers scored on a keeper from one yard away to take the early lead at 7-0.

The rest of the first half would be ruled by defense from both teams, until the very end as Silvers hooked up with wide receiver John Johnson for 20 yards down to the LSU 20. The clock seemed to run out on Troy as the reception was made leaving them to wonder what could have been... As both teams retreated to their locker rooms, Troy Head Coach Neal Brown pleaded with the officials to look at the play. Eventually they would and determined that there were two seconds left on the clock. The teams were pulled out of their locker rooms and then it was up to freshman kicker, Evan Legassey from 37 yards out. Legassey had missed a kick earlier in the half but was able to navigate this one to give the Trojans a 10-0 lead at the half.

That momentum seemed to propel Troy coming out of the locker room as they would receive the second half kick-off and immediately tack on another score. Now, LSU would trail 17-0 with no semblance of an offense.

There had been talk about freshman Myles Brennan getting some more work in this game like he did last week. On the first offensive possession of the second half it would be Brennan and not Danny Etling to lead the offense at quarterback.

On Brennan's second series trailing 17-0 he would connect on a big play down the field with wide-out, DJ Chark for 48 yards. However, the drive would stall and fall apart when another wide-out, Derrick Dillon would fumble the football after a catch deep inside Troy territory.

Demoralizing turnover for LSU especially as they were trying to mount a comeback. The defense is the strength of this team and would be in desperately need of a play to be made and wouldn't you know it, it would. On the second play of the following Troy drive, running back Jordan Chunn fumbled the football courtesy of John Battle.

Finally, a break for the Tigers and they would capitalize when Brennan found Foster Moreau for the score. 17-7 Trojans now.

The defense held for LSU but then young Brennan stared down his receiver the next drive in Troy territory and that led to an interception by Marcus Jones. For the Trojans again they would be able to turn a turnover into points.

At this point the crowd began emptying out of LSU with the score 24-7. Danny Etling would reenter the game. Quick strikes aren't a big part of this offense but he was able to engineer a three play drive that culminated with a touchdown strike by the senior.

Another fumble followed from Troy running back Jordan Chunn and with two minutes remaining LSU was able to garner another score making this a three point game, 24-21.

A failed onside kick would follow and the defense would get a stop but the offense was pinned back at their own 9 yard line without a timeout and about 20 seconds to work with. The comeback effort would come up short with 11 seconds remaining Blace Brown picked off Etling and that was that.

The Tigers were defeated by an unranked opponent and will certainly fall out of the Top 25 as they fall to 3-2 on the season. In addition, adding insult to injury, for Troy to come to death Valley on Homecoming night, LSU was paying them the lump sum of $985,000, ouch.
