13 UL Football Players Suspended Indefinitely
Thirteen members of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajun football team have been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules, the team announced Tuesday night.
The suspended players include tight end Matthew Barnes, defensive end Joe Dillon, offensive lineman Robert Hunt, defensive back Denarius Howard, defensive end Jarvis Jeffries, defensive tackle LaDarrius Kidd, linebacker Terik Miller, defensive back Damar’ren Mitchell, running back Trey Ragas, cornerback Simeon Thomas, defensive back and returnman Levarious Varnado, offensive lineman D’Aquin Withrow and running back Jordan Wright.
The University released the following statement regarding the suspensions: "The Department of Athletics is being respectful of the judicial process and will not discuss the incident that led to the players' suspension."
According to a press release from the UL Police Department, all 13 players turned themselves into Lafayette Parish Jail after cooperating with an investigation by the UL PD involving theft.
Per the UL PD, the 13 players allegedly conspired to steal items valued at around $2400 from a student in Huger Hall. Surveillance video showed the players entering a room on the 4th floor and allegedly committing theft.
