UCLA Slaps Stony Brook 9-1

The UCLA Bruins jumped on upstart Stony Brook for five runs in the first inning and never looked back, taking a 9-1 win over the Seawolves in the first game of the College World Series in Omaha.

The Bruins sent ten batters to the plate in the first inning against Stony Brook ace Tyler Johnson (12-2).  Jeff Gelalich's two run single with the bases loaded was the first blow against Johnson, who allowed more hits in the first inning against the Bruins than he did in nine innings against LSU in the Super Regional.

Johnson lost for the first time since dropping a decision to East Carolina on March 2.

Adam Plutko (12-3) allowed just one run over seven innings to get the win.

UCLA (48-14) will play Sunday against the Arizona-Florida State winner.  Stony Brook (52-14) will face elimination against the loser of that game.
