Former LSU Tiger defensive back and Heisman trophy candidate Tyrann Mathieu has announced on his twitter account that he will enter the 2013 NFL draft.

The "Honey Badger" sent out the following tweet earlier today:

"I want to thank LSU and the fans for all that they have done for me but now it's time for me to move on to a next chapter and go to the NFL"

Will he be drafted?

The consensus is yes. However, before a scandal filled year that included several drug issues, including an arrest, two stints in rehab, and a dismissal from the LSU football team, Mathieu was projected as an early round draft pick.

Today, his draft status projects for the later rounds. While he's not a lock down cover-corner, Mathieu has tremendous skills as a special-teamer. Despite being 5'9 and 167 pounds, Tyrann is a tremendous punt returner, as well as a solid cover man on special teams punts and kicks.

Mathieu will obviously have to overcome character concerns, which is the biggest reasons for his draft stock drop.

He currently resides in Pompano Beach, Florida, living with former teammate (and current Arizona Cardinal) Patrick Peterson's family.

Patrick Peterson Sr. spoke to The Times-Picayune about Mathieu's decision.

"Tyrann is undergoing rehab here and starting on Dec. 12 he will begin training full-time for the draft," said Peterson Sr., who works as a personal trainer. "He's been doing some working out but he's concentrating on rehab right now."
