Trojans Top Louisiana In Sun Belt’s Toughest Test
Little Rock came into the Cajundome with an undefeated record in Sun Belt Conference play, and they walked out untouched too.
Louisiana jumped out to a 15-11 lead in the first quarter against Little Rock, then the Trojans poured in on in the next two quarters to steal the lead, and they never gave it back. Jaylyn Gordon had an impressive performance for the Ragin' Cajuns with 29 points (9-20 FG, 3-5 3-pt, 8-9 FT) to lead all scorers, but Little Rock picked up an 82-64 win to move their conference record to 9-0.
Gordon was the top scorer, but nobody was hotter from the floor than Ronjanae DeGray. DeGray only missed one of her 11 shot attempts on her way to 25 points for the Trojans, and Sharde' Collins chipped in 23 points (8-14 FG) as well to help shoulder the scoring load.
The shooting numbers tell the whole story. Louisiana shot 37 percent (20-54 FG) and Little Rock lit it up at 60 percent (29-48 FG). When a team shoots 60 percent from the floor, they're almost guaranteed to win the game.
With Troi Swann out with an injury, Gordon was the only Cajun to hit a shot from behind the arc. Hopefully, Swann returns to action soon, along with Jodi Quinn, to lend a hand with the scoring.
This now marks Louisiana's third loss in the last four games, dropping their record to 5-4 in conference play. Next, they hit the road and travel to Georgia to take on Georgia Southern and Georgia State to see if they can reverse their current trend. It will be a tough task, considering the Cajuns are 2-3 in away games this season.
Nine games remain before the start of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, which means there are still plenty of twists and turns for the season to take before things heat up.
