The Grind-App State, Ron Guidry Weekend [VIDEO]

Who is going to be honored this week at M.L. Tigue Moore Field? The answer is...Ron Guidry. That never gets old.

Appalachian State will be in town this weekend, while the Ragin' Cajuns honor one of the greatest to ever grace the mound in vermilion and white. On top of rocking sweet throwback uni's to pay tribute to Guidry, complete with Yankee pinstripes on the back, the Cajun fans should be treated to some fireworks at the plate.

If the Cajuns bring back the hot bats they hit with in Arlington, App State is in big trouble.

Looking back, even in the Game One loss to UT-Arlington, the Cajuns collected nine hits. The problem was, they left ten men on base and left Gunner Leger on the hook for a 1-4 loss. Will Bacon was roughed up at times this year, but he came in and pitched 2+ innings to get a solid performance under his belt. Even in the loss, the Cajuns were moving in the right direction. (DISCLAIMER: We accidentally used a picture for Bacon that wasn't Bacon in the video. Sorry, Will.)

Next game, the flood gates opened, and the offensive onslaught washed away all their hitting woes.

Saturday, the Cajuns broke out for 15 hits in a 6-4 victory, and the magic number was five. Brenn Conrad and Kyle Clement combined for five hits and five RBI, while the team raked five doubles. Hunter Kasuls, who batted leadoff, tied the game with an RBI double, then Clem sealed the deal for Eric Carter's third victory of the season.

What happened next was something we typically only see in softball, a mercy rule. Everybody got in on the action.

The Cajuns had 21 hits in a 19-6 win, and they did all that damage in only seven innings. Brian Mills went off (4-5, HR, 5 RBI), and Stefan Trosclair messed around and hit for the cycle. Seven different players registered multi-hit games (Mills, Trosclair, Kasuls, Conrad, Pinero, Thurman, Herrington), and they scored runs on six different UT-Arlington pitchers. It masked one of Nick Lee's few off performances (4.0 IP, 5 ER), but it gave Hogan Harris his first career win as a Ragin' Cajun.

Harris gets honorable mention for picking up his first win in what is sure to be a fruitful career at UL, but this week's Grinder of the Week has been waiting for this weekend for a long time: Stefan Trosclair.

Whenever you hit for the cycle, you win Grinder of the Week. Let's make that a rule. Let's also hope this means Trosclair is ready to Hulk out again.

This weekend, the Cajuns welcome Appalachian State (14-31) into M.L. Tigue Moore Field. Louisiana's Head Coach Tony Robichaux called it a "trap series," and warned his team about distractions earlier this week. Everything on paper says the Cajuns should dominate, but speaking of distractions...

IT'S RON GUIDRY WEEKEND!

Not only will all the members of the Ragin' Cajuns be rocking awesome threads to honor Guidry, the entire weekend will try to make up for the long years he waited to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Better late than never. Coach Robe and his large crew of helpers, including Cajun Softball's Stefni Lotief, made sure he got his due.

Friday, he will throw out the first pitch and get to hear the roaring support from Cajun Nation. He heard their support at Cajun Field during football season, but this time he will hear it from baseball fans, standing on the mound. Fitting.

If you want an autograph, Guidry will be signing some Saturday. If you want an extra special gift, the commemorative Ron Guidry jerseys will be auctioned off throughout the weekend. Think about how awesome one of those signed jerseys would look in your man cave...

It's the second to last weekend at "The Tigue" in the regular season, and it's Ron Guidry Weekend. The Ragin' Cajuns are set up for a series sweep on the diamond, and the weather looks beautiful. Need any more reasons to go watch some baseball?
