The Cajuns Can’t Overcome Coastal’s Hot Shooting
The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns basketball team wanted to erase the game against Appalachian State from their memories and in order to do so they would have to come to play against Coastal Carolina. The game between the Cajuns and Chanticleers was a much faster-paced game and the Cajuns were able to get going early but they couldn't keep up as the Chanticleers were able to pull away for the 96-79 victory. The Cajuns fell to 13-9 overall and 4-5 in conference play.
The Cajuns would go down 10-2 but they were able to climb back in the game. Both teams went up and down the court quickly scoring basket after basket. The Cajuns would finally be able to take the lead with 3 minutes to go but the lead wouldn't last as Coastal Carolina would go on a 7-0 run over the last 1:13 of the first half to take a 6 point lead into the half.
The Chanticleers would never relinquish that lead as the lead only got bigger and they would pull away for the victory. The Cajuns went cold in the 2nd half including a lot of missed 3 pointers and free throws. Jakeenan Gant couldn't get any help and he fouled out with 27 points and 12 rebounds. Gant continues to put up numbers but if the Cajuns want to get back in the conference race, the rest of the team will have to help night in and night out.
The Cajuns will return home for a 3 game home stand as they will play Georgia Southern on Wednesday and Georgia State on Friday night in a nationally televised contest which can be seen on ESPN2. Louisiana will also host ULM the following weekend during the home stand.
