While the Ragin' Cajuns and LSU Tigers College baseball teams still have a few weeks left in their seasons. It is now down to the final weekend for the state's high school baseball teams. In fact, play is scheduled to begin in Sulphur on Wednesday in the semi-final and final rounds of the LHSAA State High School Baseball Tournament.

Among the local teams that still have a shot at capturing a state title are the teams from St. Thomas More, Ascension Episcopal, Breaux Bridge, Berwick, Iowa, Oberlin, Catholic of New Iberia, Loreauville, Kinder, Welsh, and Opelousas Catholic.

Play is set to begin on Wednesday at McMurry Park in Sulphur.

Wednesday's games include  Opelousas Catholic taking on Ascension Catholic at 11 am. Catholic of New Iberia will take on Calvary Baptist at 5 pm and Ascension Episcopal will face St. Thomas Aquinas at 8 pm.

Thursday's games include Oberlin versus Merryville at 1 pm. Loreauville will face Kinder at 4:30 while Welsh is scheduled to face Doyle at 7:30. Berwick will meet Sterlington at 10:30 and Iowa will face South Beauregard at 1:30. Other Thursday games include Breaux Bridge taking on Lakeshore at 2 pm and St. Thomas More facing St. Charles at 7 pm.

Please note these are scheduled start times. The schedule will likely fluctuate because of games running long and the threat of inclement weather in the Sulphur area too.
