Louisiana Ragin' Cajun junior outfielder Kyle Clement and freshmen pitcher Gunner Leger (pictured left) both had outstanding performances last week, and as a result, both were recognized by the LSWA (Louisiana Sports Writers Association) today.

Clement, who was already named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week earlier today, earned LSWA Hitter of the Week honors after going 10-of-21 at the plate, nailing 3 homeruns, 9 RBI, 3 doubles and was responsible for the game winning run in 4 of the 5 wins, including the Walk-Off winner yesterday to cap off a sweep of UTA.

"Anytime you have a guy earn a national award it helps your program. This is yet again another example of baseball paying our players back for their hard work and effort," said Louisiana head coach Tony Robichaux in a University press release. "I'm glad for Clement. He had to sit and wait last season behind a group of good outfielders, and now he is making the most of his opportunity. He worked while he waited, and that hard work and effort has showed over the last two weeks."

Speaking of the sweep, the Cajuns took game 1 of UTA last Friday behind Leger's outstanding pitching performance.

Leger (5-2) struck out six in his 99 pitch effort, which took Louisiana through 7 complete innings.

"Gunner showed glimpses of how good he could be early in the season," Robichaux added in the release. "He continued to work hard and get better, and now he's established himself as a Friday starter for us. I really like him in that role, and I think he has been up to the challenge the last few weeks."

Louisiana travels to Thibodeaux tomorrow for a mid-week non-conference matchup with Nicholls State. First pitch is set for 6:00. Catch all the action on ESPN1420, with pregame beginning at 5:30. Jay Walker has the call.
