Jags’ Rally Sinks Cajuns, 7-5
South Alabama rallied for three runs off Louisiana relief ace Caleb Kellogg in the seventh inning to defeat Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns 7-5 in the first of a three game Sun Belt series at Eddie Stanky Field in Mobile, AL.
The Cajuns (17-20, 6-10 Sun Belt) scored three runs in the sixth inning to take a 5-4 lead after back to back doubles by Tyler Frederick and Jace Conrad.
But USA (15-23, 9-7) came back against Kellogg in the seventh on an rbi single by Dustin Dalken, an rbi hit by Robby Campbell and a wild pitch. Kellogg had only given up one earned run all season until the Jags' rally.
The Cajuns failed to get a hit after Conrad's double in the sixth, as relievers Jarret Bailey and Kyle Bertsch shut down the Cajuns in the final 3 2/3 innings.
Cajuns' starter Jordan Nicholson was good enough to win on Friday as he scattered nine hits through 5 2/3 innings and gave up just one earned run. Three Cajuns errors played a big part in the Jaguars taking a 4-2 lead into the sixth.
The two teams will play again Saturday night at 6:30. Lefty Chris Griffitt will get the start for Louisiana.
