Liquidation sales are underway in Dallas, Texas, as well as San Antonio and other parts of Texas at a popular discount store.

It's never good to talk about a store going out of business, but here we are. When a retailer goes out of business there's a loss of jobs for a community, an empty building, and a loss of convenience for many people.

After 42 years of business, the chain of 99 Cents Only Stores will be closing its doors soon. The company will be closing its stores in California, Arizona, Nevada and Texas. In total, 371 stores will soon be dark.

99 Cents Only Stores is more than just closeout items, cleaning supplies, home goods, beauty products, and party decorations, 99 Cents Only Stores sells fresh produce and vegetables, beer and wine along with other snacks that locals have come to trust, but will soon have to find a new place to shop.

The discount retailer's Chief Executive Officer, Mike Simoncic, says it,

was an extremely difficult decision and is not the outcome we expected or hoped to achieve. Unfortunately, the last several years have presented significant and lasting challenges in the retail environment."

The lasting effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the way customers shop today also factored into the decision to close all the stores.

99 Cents Only Store has locations in these Texas cities:
