Cajuns Go Ice Cold From The Floor In San Marcos
One game after setting a team record for made threes in a game, the Ragin' Cajuns couldn't buy a bucket in San Marcos.
In Louisiana's 62-40 loss to Texas State, the Ragin' Cajuns went ice cold from the floor for their lowest point total of the season. They shot 26 percent (16-61) on the day, and they only went 3-of-18 from the three point line. Their defense held the Bobcats under 40 percent shooting too, but the rim was incredibly unkind to the Cajuns.
Garry Brodhead's team made their first shot of the second quarter, then they missed their next 14 attempts from the floor. They then closed out the game with eight straight missed shots, to put a bookend on a sour shooting performance.
The Bobcats' defense also harassed them into 12 turnovers and only allowed five baskets off assists, so Louisiana couldn't catch a break or an easy bucket.
Simone Fields was the bright spot for Louisiana, collecting another double-double (13 points, 10 rebounds) to add to her solid season, and Jaylyn Gordon broke double figures in the scoring column with 12 points. The side note to Gordon's performance was she only made five of her 24 shot attempts.
Sometimes in college basketball, the shots aren't going to fall. In this case, it's a classic example of when it rains, it pours.
The loss drops Louisiana to 10-6 and 4-3 in Sun Belt Conference play, but they still have 11 games left before the conference tournament to straighten things out. There are ups and downs to every season, this just happened to be a tough dip in the road.
