Burk, Perrin Silence Coastal Carolina’s Bats, 10-0
The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns had been stymied on Friday night in every conference weekend.
Jack Burk said it was enough.
Burk, getting his first Friday night start, teamed with Austin Perrin on a six hit shutout as Louisiana snapped a seven game losing streak, trouncing Coastal Carolina 10-0 at Springs Brooks Stadium in Conway, SC.
Burk (2-2) worked the first six innings, giving up five singles. He did not walk a batter and fanned seven, throwing 102 pitches. Austin Perrin walked the first two batters he faced in the seventh, but then fanned six in three innings of work to get his first save of the season.
Louisiana (21-17, 9-13 Sun Belt) was held hitless through the first four innings by Coastal starter Anthony Veneziano (4-2), but scored in their next four at bats and wound up with eleven hits in the contest.
A leadoff walk to Handsome Monica in the fifth was followed by singles from Daniel Lahare and an RBI single by Tremaine Spears to get the Cajuns on the board. A groundout moved runners to second and third and Lahare scored on a wild pitch. A suicide squeeze bunt by O'Neal Lochridge scored the third run of the inning.
Monica's RBI double added another run in the sixth to make it 4-0 and the Cajuns staged a two out rally in the seventh. Orynn Veillon drilled a two run single and another run scored on a wild pitch to make the score 7-0. A bases loaded walk to Hunter Kasuls and Lott's two run double completed the scoring in the eighth.
Veneziano was charged with the loss, allowing four runs on six hits in six innings. He walked one and struck out three.
Lott had three of the Cajuns' eleven hits, while Veillon and Lahare had two each. Coasal (26-19-1, 11-10) was led by Jake Wright, who had two hits.
The two teams play game two Saturday afternoon at 2:00. Brandon Young will get the start for the Cajuns.
