Astros Jose Altuve Officially Signs Contract Extension

World Series Champion, 2017 league MVP, and now Jose Altuve will have something else to celebrate. On Monday, the Houston Astros have rewarded their second baseman with a contract extension that will make him the highest paid player in franchise history.

The news of the deal broke late last week but the team made it official Monday when Altuve signed a new seven-year contract that keeps him with the Astros until after 2024.

It's reported that the deal is worth, in the ballpark of, $30 million a year. This is a significant raise from what he was due to make, which was $6 million for this season and then a $6.5 million dollar team option for the 2019 season.

This raise and contract extension are more than warranted for a guy who was always downplayed because of his stature. Yet again his proves that a man can't be judged solely on his physical size but more so on the size of his heart.

"My family and I have made Houston our home," said Altuve. "I have great teammates and coaches and we all have the same goal, we want to work hard and we want to win. Last year was really fun, but it's in the past. I'm excited about what the future holds and I'm excited to be with the Astros for years to come."
