Alabama Defeats Oklahoma, 5-4, Wins Women’s College World Series

The Alabama Crimson Tide won the 2012 Women's College World Series on Wednesday night, defeating the Oklahoma Sooners, 5-4, at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and winning the best-of-three game championship series, two games to one.

Oklahoma scored the first three runs of the game, pushing across a run in the second, on a Keilani Ricketts home run, and two more in the third, on a two-run homer by Lauren Chamberlain, to take a 3-0 lead.

Alabama was able to answer in the fourth inning though, scoring four runs on three hits, including a Courtney Conley RBI double, to give the Crimson Tide a 4-3 lead.

Alabama scored another run in the fifth, with the Sooners scoring a single run in the seventh to end the scoring, and it was the Tide that hung on to win it, 5-4.

Jackie Traina (42-3) picked-up the win for Alabama, while Ricketts (37-9) suffered the loss for Oklahoma.

With the win, Alabama captures their first national championship in school history, and becomes the first team from the SEC to win the crown. They finish the year at 60-8.

Oklahoma, who had won twelve-consecutive games prior to two straight losses to Alabama, finish their year with a record of 54-10.
