Tre’Quan Smith Progressing Nicely This Off-Season
The New Orleans Saints didn't draft a single wide receiver in the 2019 NFL Draft showing faith specifically in second-year wide-out Tre'Quan Smith. A lot of fans and Saints personnel, for that matter, are looking for a significant uptick in production in year two after Smith seemed to hit a wall midway through the season last year.
Smith is a confident kid and it showed when he said, “I was like, ‘They didn’t have to. They got me and Keith there,’ we're great players, so I’m kind of happy they didn’t. That just shows the organization believes in us and believes in our ability.”
There is plenty of opportunity for both Smith and Keith Kirkwood behind clear cut number one option in Michael Thomas.
In 2018 Smith had 28 receptions for 427 yards and five touchdowns and Kirkwood had 13 catches for 209 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Out at the Saints Hall of Fame Celebrity Golf Classic on Monday Tre'Quan recognized that he needs to step up in his sophomore campaign, “I feel like it’s very important for me just to come out and give everybody (an example) of what I’m very capable of, even though I didn’t have a good season in Year 1, it’s onto bigger and better things, and I’ve really got to prove myself all over again and show everybody… being a great asset to this team.”
He's confident that he'll be able to show progress based on his experience in 2018.
“I feel like I’m way further along, I can hit the ground running, and now I’m not just taking baby steps. I know what to expect, and I know how to prepare for things.”
