Saturday’s Scores From the Sun Belt
The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns had the weekend off, but there was plenty of action around the Sun Belt on Saturday.
ARKANSAS STATE 37, NEW MEXICO STATE 21--Justice Hansen threw four touchdown passes and set the Arkansas State record for TD passes in a season as the Red Wolves rallied from an early fourth quarter deficit. Arkansas State (5-2, 4-0) is now 20-1 in their last 22 SBC games. Tyler Rodgers threw for a pair of touchdowns for the Aggies (3-5, 1-3) but was picked off twice.
TROY 38, GEORGIA SOUTHERN 16--New coach, but same result for the Eagles (0-7, 0-3) who remained winless, spoiling the debut of interim coach Chad Lunsford. Josh Anderson rushed for 96 yards and a touchdown for Troy (6-2, 3-1) is now bowl eligible with the win, the first Sun Belt school to attain eligibility this year.
IDAHO 31, ULM 23--Matt Linehan threw for 360 yards and three touchdowns as Idaho (3-5, 2-2) raced out to a 31-7 lead before the Warhawks rallied late. Aaron Duckworth rushed for 113 yards in support of Linehan. Caleb Evans threw for 413 yards and three touchdowns, but it wasn't enough for ULM (3-5, 3-3), which lost for the third straight time.
TEXAS STATE 27, COASTAL CAROLINA 7--Damian Williams threw for a pair of touchdowns in the first half as Texas State (1-6, 0-3) beat an FBS opponent for the first time this season. Coastal Carolina (1-7, 0-5) is suffering through their longest losing streak since starting football in 2003. The Chanticleer's only touchdown came on special teams. They were outgained 507 yards to 183.
UMASS 30, APPALACHIAN STATE 29 (2 OT)--Logan Laurent's 36 yard field goal in the second overtime gave the Minutemen a stunning win over the Sun Belt's pre-season favorite. UMASS (2-6) has won two straight against teams from the Sun Belt. He had made one from 45 yards out to send the game into overtime. App State (5-3) fumbled on the first play of the second overtime to set up the winning field goal.
