Saints-Vikings Referees Have Been Picked And New Orleans Fans Should Like It
With what has seemingly been a troubled few seasons between the Saints and referees, New Orleans fans should like the assignment for the Wild Card game against the Minnesota Vikings in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
For the Saints first-round playoff game this Sunday at 12:05pm, the referees in charge will be Carl Cheffers and his crew. If that name sounds familiar to you, then you probably already know that the Saints have won 90% of the games of theirs that Cheffers has refereed since 2006.
The last Saints game that Cheffers was in charge of was the 12-10 win over Dallas in week 4.
According to Sean Payton, Cheffers has worked 14 Saints games in the last 13 seasons, with the Saints going 13-1 in those games.
In the Dallas game, the Saints had 9 penalties accepted for 80 yards.
The Saints are the sixth most penalized team, according to NFLpenalties.com. They average about 7.5 accepted penalties accepted against them per game.
That being said, the Vikings are the seventh least penalized team in the league averaging six penalties per game.
The winner of the game on Sunday will travel to Lambeau Field to face the Packers in the Divisional Round of the playoffs on January 12th.
