Report: Saints Sign LB Will Compton
Veteran linebacker Will Compton has agreed to a contract with the New Orleans Saints, as first reported by John Keim.
Compton worked out for the Saints yesterday, leading to speculation about Saints special teams captain/linebacker Craig Robertson.
Compton, who started several seasons in Washington, can play multiple linebacker positions and has played a lot of special teams, a skill set similar to Robertson.
Robertson was injured in Sunday's preseason win in Los Angeles. The workout and signing of Compton could be a direct result of Robertson's status, though nothing has been officially announced by the Saints yet.
Compton broke into the league in 2013 with Washington, earning a deal with the team as an undrafted free agent, first on the practice squad, and eventually the active roster.
In his best pro season to date, the former Nebraska Cornhusker started 15 games in 2016, procuring 122 tackles, a sack, an interception, six passes defensed, and a fumble recovery.
Compton spent last season with Tennessee after his previous five in Washington, starting 2 games for the Titans and appearing in 12.
