Ragin’ Cajuns Defeat South Alabama
The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns were victorious on Saturday evening in the state of Alabama for the first time since November 29, 2014 when they defeated Troy. They defeated the South Alabama Jaguars tonight 19-14.
The biggest story of this game was the breaking news that back-up quarterback Andre Nunez didn't travel with the team and starting quarterback Jordan Davis wasn't starting! It would be the true freshman shedding his red shirt, trading it in for a white jersey, and starting, that would be Levi Lewis.
How would the young freshman fair? Well, in the first half he and the rest of the Cajuns would perform just fine. He managed the game from a quarterback standpoint and was able to make plays with his legs when they were there. All in all he totaled 110 yards through the air and 129 on the ground.
For the UL offense they were able to make all their plays in the first half as Lewis threw for two touchdown passes. The first touchdown strike was of the 54 yard variety to Michael Jacquet and the second was on a beautiful play design to free up tight end Chase Rogers on a 13 yard score.
The defense was huge in this game with their bend but don't break mentality. They were able to force a quarterback change by South Alabama from Dallas Davis to Cole Garvin. Garvin did pretty well in this game but made two key mistakes in enemy territory that ended drives with turnovers.
The biggest play that the Cajuns defense was able to make was from the 2 yard line in the 4th quarter when Garvin had a pass tipped and intercepted by T.J. Posey. The kept the Jags from scoring and allowed Louisiana to chew up some additional time off the clock.
Even though the Ragin' Cajuns weren't able to score in the second half, the defense made the plays and held on for the victory. The win brings their record to 4-4 and 3-2 in the Sun Belt Conference.
Up next for the Cajuns will be their second SEC opponent of the year at Ole Miss. The Rebels are 4-5 overall and 2-4 in the SEC.
