NCAA Proposal Would Add Early Football Signing Period

The NCAA has announced several proposals that could have a major effect in college football.

The first, and most controversial, would add not one, but two early signing periods for football:  one in June and another in December.  These signing periods would be for 72 hours each.  Many coaches, most notably Ohio State's Urban Meyer, have come out in opposition to the proposal.

The second would allow programs to add a 10th assistant coach, presumably to be exclusively special teams.  Alabama's Nick Saban has long been a proponent of adding a tenth coach.

The other proposals would add some regulations to football camps and the number of days allotted to them.
