Mariners Select Lloyd McClendon As Manager – VIDEO

The Seattle Mariners have selected Lloyd McClendon to be the team's next manager.

McClendon, who turn 55 years old in January, spent the last eight seasons as a coach for the Detroit Tigers, including the last seven as the hitting coach, after serving as the manager for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2001-2005, where he compiled a 336-446 record.

As an MLB player, from 1987-1994, McClendon hit a .244, with 35 career home runs, and 154 RBI's, while playing for the Reds, Cubs, and Pirates.

McClendon, who will be replacing Eric Wedge, who resigned following the completion of the 2013 season, will become the 19th manager in franchise history, which began in 1977.

The Mariners, who finished 71-91 this past season, haven't made the playoffs since 2000.

McClendon is probably most famous for his tirade back in June of 2001, when he was managing the Pirates, when he became just a little upset with first base umpire Rick Reed, got ejected, took the first bag with him.
