Houston Astros Release Former Top Prospect
The Houston Astros are releasing one of their former top prospects in Jon Singleton.
Singleton came over to the Astros from the Philadelphia Phillies in a trade that sent Hunter Pence to Philly and Singleton was the big prospect that came back in return in 2011. At the time, Singleton was considered to be high-risk/high-reward and earned himself the designation as the number one overall prospect in the organization.
However, he struggled with addiction to marijuana and in 2013 he was slapped with a 50 suspension at the beginning of the minor league season. He was able to recover from that and made his Major League debut in 2014 but he wasn't very impressive, he hit only .171/.290/.331 in 420 plate appearances through 2015.
