Cajun Women Win Fifth Straight, Down App State
Jaylyn Gordon led three players in double figures and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns' women's basketball team won their fifth straight, downing Appalachian State, 68-58 Thursday night in Boone, NC.
The Cajuns (16-8, 10-5 Sun Belt) led by just three points with just over a minute to go but outscored the Mountaineers (10-17, 5-11) 7-0 in the final minute.
The Cajuns' defense held App State without a field goal in the final 3:13. The Mountaineers shot 34% (20-59) for the game, while the Cajuns were 40% from the field.
Gordon led the way with 19 points, including 3-4 from three point range. Troi Swain scored 15, while Simone Fields tallied 11 points and a tied with Swain for team high in rebounds with seven..
Madi Story led Appalachian State with 20 points, while Joi Jones added 17 but shot just 3-13 from the field. Q. Murray was the other Mountaineer in double digits with eleven points.
The Cajuns came out strong, getting a 15-8 first quarter lead and led at the end of every period. App State led for just 1:05 in the contest.
The win keeps the Cajuns in a tie with Texas State for the fourth and final first round bye in the conference tournament. The Cajuns will face Coastal Carolina Saturday at 12:00. The game can be heard on ESPN1420.
